Vitamin E is another well-studied antioxidant. Vitamin E protects the cell membrane against free radical attacks.

Vitamin E is found in soy beans, avocados, wheat germ, spinach, liver, blackcurrants, nuts, mainly almonds, and green tea, which also contains vitamin C, the phytochemical catechin and other polyphenols. Many people use green tea as an antioxidant to improve their immune system and to help fight cancer. While on the subject of green tea, it is possible to get green tea extract in the form of a capsule which, the manufacturers claim, is as strong as 10 cups of tea.

It was recently shown in trials that low vitamin E concentrations in the blood increase the risk of heart attacks. Likewise, large trials involving more than 130,000 people have shown that supplementing the diet with 100 units of vitamin E a day can substantially reduce the risk of heart disease.
