Vitamin C is
the best known antioxidant. Vitamin C destroys free radicals before they
enter the cell and is therefore a good prevention agent. An intake of
large amounts of vitamin C has been advised by some scientists in order
to combat aging.
Vitamin C can
be found in fresh fruit and vegetables, eaten raw. The best sources are
citrus fruit such as oranges, grapefruit and tangerines, but vitamin C
is also present in guava fruit, kiwi, blackcurrants, paw-paw and mango.
Other sources are tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, potatoes and red peppers.
Many people also take large amounts of daily supplements of vitamin C in
tablet form, but this has not been endorsed by mainstream scientists.
