Omega 3

Omega 3

Did you know that Inuits, the Eskimo natives of Greenland, have 42 words for snow but none for heart disease? This is because any form of heart disease is rare among Eskimo. The main reason lies in their diet of raw and cooked fat and flesh of seals and cold water fish.

Deep sea fish oils contain what are known as Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids are Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) hence they are needed by all but not produced by the body. Omega 3 has to be consumed. The main components of Omega 3 are Eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexanoic acid (DHA). Deep sea fish like mackerel, Chinook salmon, sardines, tuna, grouper, shark and swordfish are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.

EPA and DHA, which are unsaturated, exhibit a strong tendency to disperse. This property compels them to move away from similar molecules and therefore assists in dispersing the aggregations of the saturated fatty acids. Therefore EPA and DHA help prevent saturated fatty acids and cholesterol deposits from "gluing up" the arteries as well as preventing the blood platelets from becoming sticky.

A person needs to consume at least 1.5 lbs of oily fish per week - roughly a lb, thrice weekly, in order to get the recommended amount of Omega 3 fatty acids the body needs. For those who do not consume fish, fish oil supplements which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids may be found on your local health food stores and pharmacies to help you meet your Omega 3 needs.

Omega-3 : Essential to Human Body and Mind

DHA and EPA are among the most beneficial components of Omega 3 fatty acid. As the human body is unable to produce Omega 3 fatty acids, it has to be consumed. The best sources are natural sources such as fatty fish.

DHA : Natural Brain Activator

DHA (120mg) forms a large part of the human brain. DHA activates the brain as well as accelerates the brain wave transmission rate thus increasing IQ levels and enhancing the memory. It also helps relieve brain overstrain and mental stress. DHA has been seen to be helpful in the prevention of dementia in the elderly.

EPA : Natural Blood Vessel Cleanser

EPA (180mg) effectively removes fatty deposits build up which clog the blood vessels. EPA also promotes circulation, helps reduce cholesterol levels and maintenance of normal blood pressure. It helps prevent cardiovascular diseases and hyperextension.
