Androgens are a
group of anabolic steroid hormones that include testosterone ( the most important
one ), dihydrotestosterone and others. Synthetically derived anabolic
hormones such as methandrostenelone (Dianabol) are often referred to as
anabolic steroid, but they're still androgens.
Using the terms anabolic
steroid or anabolic-androgenic steroids seems redundant because all
androgens have anabolic ( muscle-building ) and androgenic ( promoting male
gender traits ) properties, though some promote some properties more
highly than others. In fact, scientists haven't proven yet that you can
completely separate the two characteristics.
