What COPD Feels Like ?

COPD affect different people in different ways. The two common symptoms of COPD are breathlessness and chronic cough. Breathlessness in particular, has great impact on a person's life.

In the early stages of COPD, people tend to ignore the symptoms of coughing and breathlessness, thinking that these will go away with time or that they are simply unfit.

Over the years, breathlessness may occur more often with less and less exertion. People with COPD may walk slower than others of their age and tend to get breathless even after washing or dressing. Many people with COPD have trouble walking up the stairs without stopping to catch their breath.

If nothing is done about COPD, the condition will worsen, leaving the sufferer less and less able to perform simple daily activities. Even having a normal conversation can become difficult due to increasing shortness of breadth. COPD can also lead to heart and lung complications.

Don't let COPD leave your breathless

It is never too late to stop smoking and take charge of COPD. Evidence shows that quitting smoking may slow down the rate of deterioration of lung function.

COPD can affect your quality of life very gradually. You may not even notice that you have stopped doing the things you used to do. In the early stages, you may just feel a little short of breath.

There are steps you can take, and there are treatments available to ease the symptoms of COPD. In COPD, early detection and treatment can make a big difference.
