VDRL test is a
very sensitive test for detecting syphilis infection (one of the many
venereal diseases). However, positive tests are also encountered in some
patients with common viral infections and autoimmune diseases.
If the VDRL
test is positive, the confirmatory tests, TPHA musts be performed. Only
when both the tests are positive is the diagnosis of syphilis confirmed.
