Mosquitoes - Dengue

Mosquito - Dengue

How is Dengue Spread ?

Dengue is spread by the bite of an infected female mosquito - Aedes aegypti mosquito, which has been infected with the dengue virus by taking a blood meal on a person who is ill with dengue virus. The infected mosquito then transmits the disease through its bite to other people who in turn becomes ill, and the chain reaction goes on.

There is no way to tell if a mosquito is carrying the dengue virus, therefore people should take extra precautions against all mosquito bites by using personal insect repellent, which will then protect them against dengue, malaria and other mosquito borne disease.

When does the Aedes mosquito start biting ?

The Aedes mosquitoes most active feeding time will be during the hours of dawn and dusk. This is because, the mosquito doesn't like to stress itself out during the heat of the day. However, these mosquitoes may feed throughout the day in the shade, indoor or on overcast days. The adult mosquito frequently resides in dwellings in poorly lit closets, cabinets, or cupboards, where it is cool and shaded.
