Evening Primrose Oil - Heart Disease, Hyperactive Children

Evening Primrose Oil and Heart Disease

In the body, evening primrose oil converts to Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), a substance known to lower cholesterol, blood pressure and prevent blood from clotting. Studies repeatedly conclude that polyunsaturates containing essential fatty acids (EFAs) perform each of the above functions. Evening primrose oil is an essential fatty acids (EFAs).

Evening primrose oil is believed to have greater effect at lowering cholesterol than large doses of polyunsaturated oil.

Evening Primrose Oil and Hyperactive Children

The hyperactive children's support group in England has collected evidence which suggests that some hyperactive children grow up to be alcoholics. Hyperactive children respond well to primrose treatment, so it seems that there may be a high incidence of improper fatty acid conversion with the resulting problems from a deficiency of prostaglandins. Many of these children also had eczema, asthma and/or allergies - all are indicators of inability to convert cis-linoleic acid to gamma linolenic acid (GLA).
