Uses of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is an ideal companion to smell exercises. The smell centers and the memory centers of the brain are in close proximity to each other, which explains why a suitable smell can evoke past memories.

Consider trying aromatherapy if you suffer from stress, headaches, asthma, infections or constipation. Oils for specific ailments are:

  • geranium, sage, tarragon and fennel for menopausal symptoms

  • lavender for low moods, infections and insomnia

  • rose for sleep problems and depression

  • sandalwood to relieve fluid retention, insomnia or cystitis

  • eucalyptus or mint for winter depression and as decongestants

  • wood marjoram for muscular pains and joint stiffness

  • chamomile for anxiety

More general remedies:

  • Cypress and lemon can be used for invigoration, especially for men

  • Rosemary is a diuretic, antiseptic and a mood booster.

  • Frankincense can aid sleep and is a decongestant.
