Primrose Oil and Diabetes
One
complication of diabetes is nerve damage (diabetic neuropathy) which can
lead to loss of sensation, male impotence and bladder problems. In a
study in Glasgow, diabetic patience suffering from neuropathy showed a
distinct improvement in symptoms when given evening primrose oil,
compared to others not given the evening primrose oil capsules. Also, diabetics have low
levels of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) and Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1)
production.

Evening primrose oil supplementation has shown beneficial effects
because it is a precursor to Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) which helps boost
the immune system. Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) is known to stimulate
T-lymphocytes which occur in low levels in people with eczema. Low level
of T-lymphocytes results in damaged auto-immune system.
