A diet high in
fruit, vegetables, starch and protein, especially fish, is thought to be
important for the brain. Soy protein is particularly useful. A good
breakfast energizes the brain after an overnight fast, but avoid fatty
food or coffee. Supplements for the brain include antioxidants such as
vitamin E, together with beta carotene, coenzyme Q10, ginkgo biloba and
selenium.
Other
vitamins which may be helpful in maintaining a healthy brain are
vitamins B. These include riboflavin, thiamin and niacin. Sources of
these vitamins are flour, kidneys, liver, potatoes, yogurt and oily
fish.
Some
scientists suggest that high vitamin C consumption can reduce the risk
of developing brain failure. This is due to the antioxidant effects of
the vitamin on the arteries of the brain.
A good brain
boosting diet will be more effective if incorporated into a healthy
lifestyle including good physical and mental exercises.
