Diet to Increase Immune System

Diet to Increase Immune System

The immune system fights diseases and other aging damage to the body. A healthy immune system means a reduced likelihood of suffering an age-related disease. Apart from brain exercises to improve immunity, certain foodstuffs may take a difference.

Antioxidants, particularly vitamin E, are worthwhile. A low fat diet containing omega-3 fatty acids from fish oils is thought to improve certain components of the immune system. Vitamin A is also necessary to maintain the immune system in good condition. It is present in liver and fortified margarines.

The mineral zinc may help as well. The recommended dose for men is 15mg per day and for women 12mg per day. Taking more than this amount can actually have a negative effect on our immune system. Zinc is found in seafood, whole grains, seeds and nuts.

Nayad, an extract from yeast cells, is believed to help revitalize tired immune cells. Another herbal extract, Echinacea, is also thought to energize the immune system. Echinacea is available in tablet, capsule or liquid form.

Too much alcohol can reduce the concentration of zinc in the body and thus worsen our immune system. Also smoking, lack of exercise and depression can take their toll on the immune system in general.
