Alcohol, in particular red wine, if drunk in moderation has several health benefits. Apart from alcohol, red wine contains many different types of antioxidants and other anti-aging substances, such as catechins. Beer and other types of alcoholic drinks may also have anti-aging effects if drunk in moderation. Certain scientists believe that it is beneficial to have one or two alcoholic drinks a day than having no alcohol at all. Consuming more than this amount of alcohol is, of course, not recommended. These observations are based on research which shows that teetotalers are more likely to have heart disease than people who consume a small amount of alcohol regularly.
