Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Ear surgery (otoplasty) is a surgical procedure to reshape the ear. A variety of different techniques and approaches may be used to reshape congenital prominence in the ears or to restore damaged ears. You must be at least 5 years old to undergo ear surgery (otoplasty) operation.

The ear pinning (Otopexy) surgery is done to make the ears look smaller and less protruding. You will first be given local anesthesia with IV sedation, and the ear surgery operation should last 3-4 hours or longer. You will need to wear an elastic band over the ear for 6 weeks, and you will be given a course of antibiotics and painkillers for 3 days. You should not handle the ear roughly for 6 weeks, and you will need to have follow-up consultations on the 3rd and 7th day after the ear surgery. Some of the usual side effects of ear surgery (otoplasty) are nerve injury, skin loss and thick scars if you are dark-skinned.
