The basis of any kind of bodybuilding training is the principle of progressive resistance training. That is, when you work your muscles against a significant amount of weight and resistance and against the force of gravity, they adapt by getting bigger and stronger. This is how the muscle been build.

As your muscles get stronger, you progressively increase the amount of weight you use in your workouts to keep the muscles adapting until you reach your limit of muscular development.

You should use barbells, dumbbells and various types of machines to provide the necessary resistance in order to stimulate muscle growth.
